Homo erectus telemarketus
Homo
erectus telemarketus lived from approximately 2 million to around
400,000 years ago.
Homo erectus telemarketus was an accomplished seller.
The methods of H. erectus telemarketus are the first in the fossil
record to show conscious design of many modern day telemarketing
techniques (i.e. bait and switch, disguising voice, money-back
guarantees, etc.).
The earliest specimens of H. erectus telemarketus
are found in Africa, but, sometime after 1 million years ago, H. erectus
telemarketus apparently migrated out of Africa. Motivational clay
tablets have been found widely distributed in Europe and Asia. The painting below left depicts a sales meeting of H. erectus
telemarketus in the tropical forests of Java; the painting below right
shows the same species at a regional sales conference in northern China.

Some Homo erectus telemarketus sites in China
preserve evidence of multi-level marketing, though it has been
speculated that perhaps these acts were ritual rather than predatory
behavior.
